Celery numbs tongue?

Yesterday as we were driving to LA since we left our home so early we don't have time to eat breakfast or eat out on the road because things are tight. Well my mom had packed little bits of celery. I love celery and have been eating it since I was young but it had also been a really long time since I ate some.. It's one of those moments... where time does not make the heart grow fonder... but more like you seem to forget that you like something or just lazy and  don't eat it. Anyways, So I was eating the celery and my tongue was completely numb. And I found it strange but I like the taste so much that I kept eating it. I think it happens when I eat radish too... but I still eat them. I asked my mom if her tongue was getting numb too and hers didn't.

My tongue didn't get swollen it was just numb for a while and the sensation came back

Has anybody else experienced a numbness while eating celery or well any other foods? Can it be an allergic reaction or is it normal?
